James McCord, Sr.

December 29, 1942 ~ November 17, 2018 (age 75)

James Kermit McCord, Sr., a resident of Gulfport, MS, at God’s request, exchanged life for eternity on November 17, 2018. To his family, he was known affectionately as “Sonny”, and later became known as “Scottie” to his friends.


Baptized at an early age in the Catholic Faith, he attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and School, later graduating from Holy Rosary Institute in Lafayette, LA. A veteran, having served in the United States Army, he also attended Tennessee State University. He was an avid writer of letters and he had a zeal for reading and doing crossword puzzles that continued throughout his lifetime.


Born December 29, 1942, in Mobile, AL the first of two sons, to the union of the late Clayton Thompson and the late Alonzo A. McCord, both whose demise preceded his.
He leaves treasured memories with: a loving family, daughter, Clayton Dunn of Colorado Springs, CO; sons, Michael Francis (Princess) of Atlanta, GA, and James “JK” McCord, Jr.; mother of his son “JK”, and to whom he was married, Sharon Davis McCord; grandson, London Crawford of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughters, Delores Brown and Alexandria Francis of Atlanta, GA; greatgrandson, Jayden Crawford of Dallas, TX; brother, Alonzo “Tad” McCord (Jennifer Pruitt); sister, Orci McCord of New York, NY; aunts, Fannie “Faye” McAfee of Montgomery, AL, and Rachel Baldwin of Pensacola, FL; nieces, Alyessa Roberts and Tressa Norwood (Israel); nephews, Benjamin Pruitt (Erica), Alonzo “TJ”, Jr. (Selena) and Stephan (Amerisha) McCord; and like his daughters, Cherie Stallworth Ward and LaTanya Stallworth Cannon; a host of cousins, two who were special, Aunt Clyde (as she is known) Heartfield of Tucson, AZ, and James “Lil Bud” Thompson (Pauline) of Thomasville, AL; great-nieces, a great-nephew, other relatives and many caring friends.

Celebration of Life Services will take place on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 10:30AM at Grace & Truth Christian Fellowship Church - 1408 Dr. MLK, Jr. Ave.  • Mobile, AL 36603. #TheHeritageWay
