Sylvester Carlis III was called home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. He was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, on August 2, 1937, to the late Sylvester Carlis II and Mildred Hendrix Carlis Pollard.
While living in Mobile, Alabama, Sylvester was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. He later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, and joined Greater St. Stephens Baptist Church.
Sylvester was always known to have great jobs and sporty cars. Sylvester began working early as a baker at Tuskegee Institute, Western Auto, and Mobile Welding Supply/ Union Carbide Airgas Production in Mobile, Alabama.
Sylvester enjoyed dancing; he and Clara’s favorite song was “Blueberry Hill” by Fats Domino.
In 1956, Sylvester married his sweetheart, Miss Clara Ann Jones. To this union, five sons were born: Gregory, Gary, Ronnie, Ricky and Christopher Carlis.
He was preceded in death by: both parents, a son, Marshall Jackson, two brothers, Danny Earl and Samuel Carlis, and two sisters, Diane Pollard and Aline Carlis.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Clara Ann Jones Carlis; six sons, Gregory, Gary, Ronnie (Natalie), Ricky (Giretter), Christopher Carlis and Tremaine Davis; five brothers, Fred, John, Lynn D., Norris Carlis and Jesse Pollard; one sister, Janice Carlis Harvey; best friends, Paul Jones and Doug; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 1PM - 7PM at Heritage Funeral Home, 953 S. Broad Street • Mobile, Al 36603.
The Family will receive Family & Friends on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at New Birth Community Church • 1329 Forest Ridge Road West, Mobile, AL 36618. Visitation will begin at 9AM followed by an 11AM Celebration of Life Service.
